The situation in the events sector

The events sector is an extremely complex and multifaceted industry that has a significant economic impact on many other sectors. The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the industry: many events had to be canceled or held online or in a hybrid format.
The sector was forced to adapt quickly, which also posed new challenges for organizers. Although recovery began after the pandemic situation eased, economic instability, inflationary pressures, and declining visitor numbers continue to pose serious challenges.

The key to the future lies in increasing adaptability
and integrating digital technologies
into the sector's operations.

Why is change necessary?

Due to its complexity, the events sector is more difficult to measure and analyze than other industries—the available data is often incomplete or fragmented. In order to obtain an accurate picture of the sector's true economic significance, a comprehensive, data-driven system is needed that:

  • supports a more accurate characterization of domestic events,
  • helps to support businesses more effectively,
  • encourages cooperation between stakeholders,
  • and provides a basis for decision-making and sectoral strategies.

The challenge and opportunity of digitalization

Technological development and digitalization are transforming economic and social structures worldwide. However, digital maturity in event tourism is low, which is a competitive disadvantage in international markets.
This is why it has become crucial to create a competence and knowledge center that can support businesses in transformation and innovation.

The aim of the ReDiTu project

The main aim of the Event Industry Digital Knowledge Center (ReDiTu) is to promote the digital development of event industry businesses, increase their adaptability, and support technological renewal in line with Priority 1 of the Digital Renewal Operational Program Plus – Smarter Hungary.

Businesses with greater digital competence are:

  • more competitive,
  • respond more quickly to market changes,
  • and can develop more efficient operating models.

To this end, ReDiTu offers a comprehensive service package for businesses.

Target groups and stakeholders

The ReDiTu project supports players in the event tourism sector – that is, anyone who carries out activities related to events held at a specific time and place.
This includes, among others:

  • event organizers,
  • venue operators,
  • sound, lighting, and visual technology providers,
  • catering and security providers,
  • marketing and PR agencies,
  • cultural and tourism providers,
  • sports equipment providers,
  • interpreting, photography, and video providers.

ReDiTu aims to connect ecosystem players and ensure continuous dialogue between them.

Professional cooperation

Cooperation within the sector plays a key role in the project. The biannual Restart conferences provide a forum for industry dialogue, where professionals can jointly shape the future of the sector.
Several key organizations are involved in the board of trustees of the Hungarian Tourism Program Foundation (MTPA), which is implementing the project, including:

  • Music Hungary Association
  • Hungarian Association of Event Organizers and Service Providers (MARESZ)
  • Hungarian Olympic Committee
  • Visual Europe Group
  • Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ)
  • HUNGEXPO

The board of trustees also acts as an advisory body for the ReDiTu project.

If you also work in the events sector and want to build a more competitive, modern, and efficient business, you will find support, knowledge, and connections in the ReDiTu program.

and step into the future with ReDiTu!
