EIT Culture &amp; Creativity invites you to submit proposals for the 2025 Short Innovation Projects - supporting high-impact initiatives that tackle key challenges in the Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries.



This open call is for fast-moving, results-driven innovation projects, running for a maximum of six months and delivering tangible, market-ready solutions.



With a strong focus on fashion, architecture, cultural Heritage, audio-visual media, and gaming, we aim to accelerate the commercialisation and adoption of innovations that respond to globalisation, digital transformation, emerging technologies (such as AI), and environmental sustainability.



We offer financial support per project up to €120,000 for consortia and up to €59,500 for single participants, along with tailored services to support long-term success - market access, investor pitch sessions, and networking opportunities.

Atelier Chemnitz 2025 – A unique opportunity for festival managers!

In the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary society, the intersection of art, technology, and ethics has emerged as a focal point for dialogue, exploration, and innovation. At the forefront of this dynamic convergence lies "A Fair New World," an initiative spearheaded by Kunst en Erfgoed (Arts and Heritage). Through its multifaceted approach, "A Fair New World" navigates the complexities of our digital age, inviting reflection, collaboration, and action.



Central to the initiative's ethos is the recognition of art as a catalyst for critical inquiry and social change. Through exhibitions, performances, and digital installations, artists challenge prevailing norms and provoke thought-provoking conversations around issues such as surveillance, automation, and artificial intelligence. Exploring the Intersection of Art, Technology, and Ethics: A Spotlight on "A Fair New World"

On the first day of the 2024 Travel Exhibition, the publisher of Turizmus.com organized a professional conference again at Hungexpo, titled "Drawing a Card for 19 in 2024." Natália Oszkó-Jakab, co-president of the Hungarian Tourism Program Foundation, spoke about the domestic event plans and expected prospects for 2024 in her closing presentation.



The co-president of the foundation explained that the foundation was established in 2020 to assist the COVID-affected event industry, working to bring together organizers and service providers of various types of events within the sector—whether cultural and tourism events, festivals, conferences, unique programs, or the realization of international sports events—and to help find solutions to the sector's comprehensive problems.



The four main pillars of MTPA's activities are research and database-building; scholarship programs and related collaborations; building domestic and international relationships; and maintaining the continuously updated Event Calendar available on the MTPA website.



The primary research goal of the foundation is to obtain a real picture of the labor market situation within the sector. In 2022, they conducted two studies in collaboration with Hétfa Research Institute: one examining the training structure in the domestic event sector, and the other assessing the skills and training related to the sector in the context of the labor market.

Since the most significant problem faced by the event industry following the pandemic was labor shortages, MTPA created the RaKÉTa (Rendezvényipari Képzési Támogatás) scholarship program to assist the profession. The program offered scholarship positions for event organizer and service provider training courses at several adult education partner institutions.



In the pilot semester, the program had 26 scholarship recipients at four adult education training centers. As part of the program, the foundation is also working on establishing higher education collaborations, with current partners including Corvinus University of Budapest, Budapest University of Economics, and Budapest Metropolitan University. Natália Oszkó-Jakab mentioned that in 2021, the foundation initiated the ReStart conference, which has been held annually since then to allow professionals working in cultural, business, and sports event organization to meet and discuss experiences from the past period.



MTPA's monthly MeetUps also serve as platforms for experience sharing and education. Their primary goal is for industry professionals to meet the key players in the event industry and exchange experiences on topics affecting the entire event sector during presentations and roundtable discussions.



Beyond domestic networking, MTPA's Visibility program aims to showcase Hungarian event industry players, trends, major events beyond the country's borders, thus aiding in the international visibility of domestic players, building partnerships, and business acquisition.Finally, Natália Oszkó-Jakab drew attention to MTPA's up-to-date <a href="https://mtpa.hu/en/events" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Event Calendar</a>, which gathers Hungarian cultural, sports, business, and community events in one easily searchable platform.

What to Expect in the Domestic Event Market This Year

MTPA has long aimed to foster close and meaningful relationships with educational institutions whose students are the future players in the events sector. To achieve this goal, we established the RaKÉTa program, within which we not only gathered relevant institutions and their programs on an interactive map but also announced a scholarship program for adult education institutions' students.&nbsp;



This endeavor has now reached another significant milestone, as the first cooperation agreement has been established between the Foundation and Budapest University of Economics as an institution of higher education.&nbsp;



Under this collaboration, the parties commit to mobilizing their theoretical and practical knowledge bases, as well as their networks, collectively for common professional objectives. The shared goals include assisting students of the University in gaining practical experience and entering the labor market, jointly advocating for the recruitment of professionals, and mutually leveraging the intellectual capacities of the University and MTPA, channeling them into education and the events sector.&nbsp;



The ceremonial signing of the agreement will take place at the highly successful MTPA MeetUp event on November 29.&nbsp;

A cooperation agreement has been reached between MTPA and BGE

The theme of the last MeetUp of the year is work-life balance

Close to 600 participants, 63 speakers, and over 100 professional partner seekers registered in the delegate database. The conference program of Rendezvény ReStart 2023 explored the continuous adaptation and development of the event sector to the ever-changing world, unfolding new opportunities arising from these changes. It was a great pleasure that the event was organized with the participation of our RaKÉTa scholarship recipients.

The events of the day are challenging to capture in just a few lines, so we won't attempt to do so. However, for those who were not present, we have summarized the key points to spark interest in next year's personal experiences.



After the foundation's welcome and the ministerial opening presentation introducing the tourism development goals, industry advocacy organizations shared their current objectives in a roundtable discussion in the plenary hall. The post-lunch sessions were divided into business, cultural, and sports sections for the attendees.



A few years ago, family-friendly workplace culture was a novelty; today, it's a natural expectation in almost every sector. The business panels opened discussions on work-life balance in the event industry. Subsequently, our panelists discussed the international representation of Hungarian services, venues, and attractions, as well as the conscious building of Hungary as a desirable business and leisure destination at Volt Lokál. Representatives from the creative industry shared their experiences about the possibilities and dangers of artificial intelligence often surpassing human performance. The prestigious and informal meeting points of various professions took center stage, promoting informal dialogue and networking. Communication and PR through events are one of the most direct tools, discussed by representatives from Hungarian communication agencies, preceding a mention of the upcoming Flash Award, connecting the event industry.



Our national pride, the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, and the current issues of cultural support were first presented in the NagyHalll. The export strategy of the Hungarian cultural scene is diverse, differing not only in artistic form but also in target market and resources. The panel discussed the challenges of visibility, the toolkit, and cultural and relationship capital that the sector can rely on. There is ongoing professional debate about the advantages and disadvantages of data-driven tourism. This year, the decision-makers expand the national regulations to cover musical and dance events. Experts in this room explored what industry players gain from continuous and regular data reporting and what they truly need. Our hosted events at MTPA have previously touched on festivalization and the changes resulting from this phenomenon. Rendezvény ReStart did not overlook this topic.



NFT photo exhibition in Seoul, Amrita Sher-Gil anniversary in Delhi, Hungarian poetry in New York's Central Park, Smart Hungary exhibition at Transylvanian Design Week – what forms do Hungarian cultural export products take around the world? The lecture by the former director of the Moscow Hungarian cultural institute, current head of the Cultural Diplomacy Strategic Department at the Ministry of Cultural and Innovation, covered the role and successes of the 26 foreign Hungarian cultural institutes operating in 24 countries worldwide before discussing the increasing trend of Hungarian cultural support seeking EU funds and seeking cross-border partnerships.



Soon, the world's eyes will be on us. In August 2023, we will host Hungary's largest sporting event to date, the World Athletics Championships. The multi-year preparatory work is currently underway, requiring meticulous organization down to the smallest details. The effects of such a global sporting event are expected to invigorate not only the sports scene but the entire tourism sector – global stars in the stadium, everyday heroes in the stands, and a spectacular battle in the streets of Budapest. The goal everywhere: to be the best. All of this will be reflected in almost every panel of the KisHall with a sports theme, while discussing the many tasks of the current accreditation year, including informing federations and sports leaders, designing and distributing uniforms, and protocol education or anti-doping briefings. Participants also learned about the details of the increasingly diverse gala genre in recent years, emphasizing the positive professional feedback and the psychological mechanisms behind the celebration of important results. Sustainability today is not just about renewable energy use, selective waste collection, and the use of recycled tools. Facility operators shared their experiences on complying with special protocols and their personal missions. Active tourism is becoming increasingly popular worldwide, including in Hungary, as a way of traveling and spending leisure time. The National Active Tourism Strategy, outlining the development directions of active tourism in Hungary until 2030, was presented as the document's creator outlined the key points. The professional day surrounded by the active attention of the participants concluded with an analysis of the expected tourism impact of the World Athletics Championships.



For industry stakeholders, the conference has become strategically significant since its founding in 2021. This year, the Akvárium Klub hosted the conference, where the MTPA defines its role as an industry catalyst. Its primary tasks include creating public awareness, increasing the ability to assert common interests, and exploring new collaborations. It is essential that industry players can meet decision-makers and government officials to coordinate their common interests. The program invited participants from the world of business events as well as representatives of cultural and sports events because the goal remains to bring together the event industry.

The challenge for 2023 in the event sector is clearly adaptation: the industry operates in a new reality where the importance of relationship-building, networking, and proactive dialogue is greater than ever. The ReStart conference program is complete

The MTPA is participating in two programs during the festival held from April 27 to 30, 2023. We welcome attendees at the FestivalExpo and during the recording of MTPA SmartUp podcasts at SopronFest.



The I. FestivalExpo was initiated by VOLT Produkció, Hajógyár, and MTPA with the aim of establishing a tradition. The program intends to bring together the organizers of Hungarian festivals once a year at the beginning of the festival season. They can introduce their plans for the upcoming months at various high-quality festivals throughout the country to each other, the audience, and the press.



The FestivalExpo program is public and will take place from April 27 to 30, every day from noon to 2 pm at Liszt Központ. Participating festival organizers will present their plans for this year in 10-minute sessions. This program is not only for journalists and professionals but also for the interested public. Innovations, challenges, performers, ticket prices, and many interesting details will be showcased in Sopron at the end of April. The list of speakers for the FestivalExpo and the detailed program can be accessed through the FestivalExpo website. The media partners for the program are Index, radiocafé, and Recorder Magazin.

In addition to the FestivalExpo, MTPA will also be present at the PodcastFestival, where we will engage in discussions on three current topics with the most exciting participants in the Hungarian festival scene at various locations in Sopron for three days. MTPA SmartUP panel discussions are open to the public but require registration, and the discussions will be available as podcasts on MTPA's social media platforms.

When we hear the word "festival" nowadays, most of us associate it with a well-defined event format: an outdoor venue where magic lasts for a few days. However, trends are constantly changing, prompting many Hungarian organizers to step outside the usual framework.



In the first part of MTPA's off-site MeetUP, MTPA will talk with Janina Szomolányi (Bartók Spring / Liszt Fest - Bartók Tavasz / Liszt Ünnep), Attila Ernhaft (Valley of Arts Festival - Művészetek Völgye Fesztivál), and Lobenwein Norbert (SopronFest) about the challenges of deviating from traditional festival formats.

Why is it essential for a festival to have a mission? What causes can a festival support, and which ones should it stand by? What can be counterproductive?



Responsibility or organization based on declared values is generally crucial for smaller festivals, where cohesion is not merely of a commercial nature. This value horizon can come from the age or interests of the visitor group, or the organizers may wish to highlight a topic they consider important. Kata Oláh (Bánkitó Festival), András Süli (Made in Debrecen), and Marcell Budai (EFOTT) will discuss this at MTPA's off-site MeetUP and new podcast series, SmartUP.

Organizing an event specifically for fans of a particular music genre on the crowded Hungarian festival scene is genuinely daring—and maintaining that coveted "niche status" is even more challenging. Whether it's drum &amp; bass, national and international underground, or a unique combination of venue and lineup, Balaton Sound, Fekete Zaj Festival, Fishing on Orfű, and La Boum have already proven the validity of these festivals. In a special edition of the SopronFest MeetUP-SmartUP, MTPA's moderator will interview Virág Csiszár, Balázs Varga, Péter Egyedi, and Kamau Makumi about their experiences, motivations, and plans.

Communication Toolkit

Effective April 1, 2025, the ReDiTu – Digital Knowledge Center for the Event Industry has officially launched. Its mission is to support Hungary’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the event sector in their long-term digital transition and related competency development. The project is implemented by the Hungarian Tourism Program Foundation (MTPA) and is based on recent sectoral research conducted by the HÉTFA Research Institute.



In recent years, the MTPA website has become an important knowledge base for the event industry. In the post-COVID period, we worked to bring together the heavily affected sector, channelled financial support to industry stakeholders, addressed workforce shortages through scholarship programs, and shared up-to-date knowledge through professional discussions. The new focus is digital adaptation: analyses by HÉTFA highlighted that the key to improving the sector’s competitiveness now lies in digitalisation.



The ReDiTu project was created in response to this insight: it offers comprehensive professional support, mentoring, training and digital services to businesses involved in organising cultural, business, tourism or even sports events — including event organisers, sound and lighting technology companies, catering providers, on-site logistics teams, or even craft vendors.



We have already laid the foundation for the project at the Event ReStart Conference on May 20, where, in cooperation with representatives of the professional community, a dialogue was launched on potential directions for digitalisation. The next step is expected on October 2, at the next ReStart Conference, where we will present concrete solutions and platform features.



In the meantime, we warmly welcome stakeholders from across the sector to share the challenges or problems where they feel they need training, digital tools or even just professional guidance. These insights can be sent to <a>info@mtpa.hu</a>, and we will incorporate them into the next phase of ReDiTu’s development.

ReDiTu has launched – the Digital Knowledge Center for the renewal of the event sector

On March 13-14, the SoFEST! Forum France Festivals will address the most pressing issues in the festival industry. Hungary will be represented by Oszkó-Jakab Natália, Director of the Valley of Arts Festival, in an exciting panel discussion: Ecological and Economic Constraints: How Do They Interact? Debates, keynotes, and workshops – plenty of opportunities to inspire collective action!
